Just a week before the recording of Ancient City of
the Jaguar, the JP Team still did not have an actor
to play the part of Kayam. They hoped to find a boy
with a real Yucatan accent. But where do you find
that? Finally Ian was called for the part, and only
had a few days to study the accent. If you listen to
the episodes, he did a fantastic job!
Why do you enjoy being part of the Jonathan Park project?
I feel so fortunate to be apart of this project. To be able to come in and collaborate with other actors in such a friendly
environment is truly a blessing. Plus, the JP program was where I discovered how much I enjoy voice-over work. I
feels really great to be apart of something that is such a positive influence in so many lives.
Why is the creation message important?
I look at it this way: If you don’t get the beginning of the story right, how are you going to get the middle or the end parts
correct? It serves as a foundation. A building cannot remain standing if there is a lousy foundation. It is most
important and essential. Along with the Gospel, of course.
What is it like to play your character?
I’ve actually been fortunate enough to play several characters on the show. And each one is completely different. It is
a joy to work with the director and the other actors and create something new each time. Some characters require
more preparation than others, and are, in turn, more difficult to play. But the challenge is what makes it fun. I just
hope that I portray the characters the writers have created as truthfully as possible. And that by relating to these
characters, the audience would be blessed.
Tell us about your family.
Being the person that I am, the Lord could not have blessed me with a better family. Ever since I actually started
performing at age 11, they’ve been behind me and have gotten involved their selves, and I can say have enjoyed the
process just as much as I have. My parents, Pat and Kim, have always worked so hard for our family, setting a great
example for me for when I’ll have a family of my own. My brother Grant and I are becoming better friends as time goes
on. We’re cool toward each other most of the time, and and have our brotherly “conflicts” from time to time, as any
respectable brothers do. They are awesome. I love ‘em to death.
What is your favorite creation evidence?
The cockroach. It can live for months without food, weeks without its head, and is resistant to radiation. That is one
amazing critter.
Do you like working with the other actors on the team?
Do I like it?! I love it! I always look forward to coming in and recording with the JP team. They make you feel welcome
and comfortable; which is the best atmosphere for working creatively and giving your best, while remaining
professional. They are a fantastic group of actors and I enjoy working with all of them.
